Raccoon Control and Removal
Raccoons are very curious and nimble animals which results in them being destructive to homes and property.
Raccoons adapt well to the urban environment, and can often be found towns as well as in more rural areas. In urban environments, they take advantage of homes, garages, sheds, and other buildings for shelter, as well as getting food from garbage cans and 'handouts' from people.
Habitat
Raccoons will often be found living under decks, in attics, in chimneys, and in vents. Being nimble animals, raccoons can climb trees, downspouts, bricks, and ivy/vines to gain access to a suitable place for them to seek shelter.
Raccoons are very common animals in Michigan. Raccoons get into attics and chimneys to build their dens. Once this happens they can cause a great deal of damage due to them chewing wires, damaging wood, ripping up insulation, and leaving feces and urine throughout your attic with can cause unpleasant smells and disease.
Signs of Raccoons
Raccoons leave us clues when they have moved in. If you notice torn vents and shingles, scrapping noises in the attic or chimney, or notice your trashcans are being tampered with, there is a good chance a raccoon has made your home its own.

Removal
It is important to use live traps to catch and remove raccoons. Often people will try to remove the problem themselves by using poison. It is very important to understand that doing this is not a good idea. Firstly, using poison is very cruel to the animals as it will lead to a very painful death for them. Secondly, if the Raccoon dies in your attic, or in your wall cavity you will have to deal with the smell of a dead animal and the potential for maggots and flies in your home. Removing a dead animal from a wall cavity is a very expensive proposition.
Preventing More Raccoons
Raccoons are not territorial. If they pick up the scent of another Raccoon they will follow it and join that family. It is therefore very important to prevent more Raccoons entering your attic by fixing entry points to your home. Broken or loose chimney caps, vent caps, or holes in siding/roofing can all be points of entry to your home for a Raccoon. We can help identity and fix these problems to help reduce the chance of further Raccoon problems.
Attic Remediation and Restoration
If Raccoons have been living in your attic, they will have caused damage. It is important that once the Raccoons have been removed that the attic is professionally cleaned. Raccoon feces and urine will cause unpleasant odors, and also can contain ring worm eggs which can be harmful to humans.
